Brakes binding on full lock turn
Hi everyone,
My neigbour is the proud owner of a '05 KJ Renegade, and it's just arrived home.
If you put the Jeep on full right lock and attempt to reverse, it seems to pretty much lock up the bakes, and wont move. Do this in left lock, no problems.
So I did an OBD scan and it came back with no codes, but I am sure something is wrong.
Would I be correct in assuming it's a rear wheel ABS sensor at fault?
Cheers,
Robert

A faulty ABS sensor will not cause the brakes to lock on (well, it will but not in the situation you describe)
Unless it's the handbrake bindings or similar, I can't think of any other brake related problem that will cause the brakes to lock on when reversing with a hard right tiller.
Have you checked to see if the KJ is in 2wd.
This thread --> http://www.ausjeepoffroad.com/forum/...d.php?t=148463 sounds like it might be similar and was suspected to be the rear LSD, maybe look at that also

Thanks for the reply.
I will need to go for a bit more of a drive in it. It certainly could be the LSD binding, and it could be the aforementioned 4wd issue too, but it is in 2wd according to the dash.
More research tomorrow I expect...

I've yet to go onto the sand to fully test mine. No complaints on a trip to muddy Levuka 4wd park.

The ABS system is usually commanded to full release when there is zero wheel speed and when the vehicle speed has below typically 15-20kmh without a deceleration event, so it is not likely to be the culprit, checking the park brake and each wheel brake for loose parts binding etc, check for tyre clearances as well..
IMO it is not likely to be the diff as if it was completely locked up the vehicle would likely still move just drag a tyre.

Hold on Binding on reversing on full lock may simply be the pinch weld or sway bar rubbing the tyre. I suggest you look under the car and see if the sway bar is hitting the tyre there. This happens a lot when people are running larger width tyres, even 245/70s will do it. Eliminate the simple and most likely cause before you get complicated.

Already did. Now something has broken in the diff and occasionally will bind up just like putting your foot on the brake. Taking it in this morning to get it looked at. I suspect a clutch pad has broken away.
