how do I test "power to the electric fan" or any component or part as such?
Do I diconnect it from the two wires going to the fan and measure volts across those two with a multimeter? Sorry for this, like you know by now electrics is not my thing and if anyting I dont wanna stuff thing up by doing test procedures the wrong way and fry things

There are two methods, one is to use a test lamp and the other is to use a multimeter, to verify there is power use the test lamp in place of the load, ie disconnect the fan, to use a multimeter to do this leave the fan connected.
To test the fuse, use the test lamp or meter and with the fuse still in situ put one probe (black) on the gnd (- terminal) and then use the red to probe the top of the fuse (both sides should indicate power when the ign is on)....

To test the fan's power? if so then the red would go into the wiring (+ve) going to the fan.
To test the fan's continuity connect to the same points with the power OFF and use the OHMs scale...

Thanks JJ for helping out with this (who better than)
(the fan has got a blue and black wire running to it, I take it the blue would be the positive). So, could I also disconnect the blue wire and probe its end t with the red multimeter probe (since I dont have a wire-piercing probe on it)?

If I want to test a wire through the insulation, I pierce the insulation with a sewing pin.....but I'm no expert on electrical.
