Just completed a 4000km round trip to Qld from Sydney in my new diesel Trailhawk. Didn’t miss a beat towing a 1100kg camper trailer and averaged around 10.5 litres/100km. I do have a problem with some of the plastic trim, inside and out but all cars are made like this now.... except German.

Great vehicle on the open road and fantastic on the dirt. Didn’t get much hard core 4x4ing done due mainly to the limits of the camper unfortunately.

Oh, the foot brake... I actually love it, doesn’t hit my leg like I thought it would and feels reassuring to push down on it. My wife’s car has an electronic park brake and I’m not a fan.

Don't believe that, I bought one of the first 2.0L diesel VW Golf's, arrived in March 2005.
It was a brilliant car, but had an annoying rattle from the passenger side of the dash board, I didn't worry about it.
Then when I decided to sell it, when i retired, I thought I should fix it.
Took out the glove box, and a small screw behind in the firewall, was loose.
F%ck me, why didn't I fix it 5 years earlier.

Jeez I've still got the bluefin remap tool, I must buy another VW Golf diesel. LOL

I've just converted to a MY14 from past two Discovery's and the WK2's are absolute bang for the buck. If you a tad DIY'er (and you should be if you want to 4WD) and learn from these forums you will be just fine. My past forums on Landrovers were nothing short of full workshop / mods / fixes and what to watch out for yet on the Jeep forms, way less information so that is telling that the hype is overrated. Mind you my first experience on a warranty claim with Jeep just before it ran out left me gobsmacked with how Jeep owners are treated.

For many, the motor / auto combination and feature rich with towing / 4WD aspects are winners. Negatives are little things like the rear tow hooks in luggage area (basically just a tek screw mount under the plastic cover) are cost cutting concerning little things. I've been a regular poster of mods and strip downs in Landy's to save many dollars for all but after 18months of ownerhsip in the WK2, I've yet to see an issue I cannot deal with myself. Mind you I did buy a RRP $1800 diagnostic unit. I have the mild fuel tank noise (another pump gone noisy after warranty claim and outer left scrubbing 1/2 inch edge on FL tyre. Aircon sometime has a mind of its own in cooler climates with the left side on heat and right on cool??? but its not Toyota air either. I tried to crack into the uConnect and did have a surf around after changing the root password to activate the crappy navigation option with many hours of forum help modifying files and putting SRT options on and of, but I too have failed with the final steps in activation workaround.

If not at all handy, then perhaps other vehicles fit the bill. Mind you I miss my TD5 as the ultimate go anyway off road, but I don't blink an eye with towing my 2T plus van, daily drive with all the mod cons and quiet. I have current a prius as well and the WK2 is just as quiet if not more on city streets. Hope this helps. Economy is great and I get just under or on 14L/100 towing and around 10.5 city traffic and not a light foot either.

I also changed from a Disco Td5 to a WK2 and the towing experience alone was an eye opener. There is no more stress when towing the 1.5 ton van.

I have had some overheating issues which took Jeep 7 months to rectify and the vehicle is again running as it should.

Little things like the poor and plasticy finish are quickly forgotten when driving the car - it's brilliant.

I did keep my Td5 so that I could still tackle the serious stuff when I am so inclined.

i don't think the interior of my limited is plasticy, no more than any other 4wd . even 200 series are plasticy

No, but the outside sure is. The ill fitting, loose, plastic rear quarter panels in particular!

The plastic on the inside and outside looks good, light weight, bit wobbly so don't touch. That's progress.
