(another) question on EGR. VM 2.5 Td
Hi all,
been looking but couldn't find an answer to this.
I removed the egr valve and blanked everything, now can I remove the egr module? That one where the vacuum pipe is connected...
Do I get any fault? Does that control other stuff?
Thanks

That is a vaccume pump that works the EGR. Dont know what happens when you remove it. The ECU may see its not connected any more & make a fault, may even put it into limp mode. I left the EGR in place & just blanked it from the inlet & exhaust manifolds so that it looks like its all there & working.
If you do remove the pump, please let us know what happens.

Ok so I'll try.
Reason why I want to remove it is because I have broken the little tip where it's plugged in the plastic line. I blanked the little hole with some silicon, but I'd be happier to remove it and fix it for the day I will need it back (if...)
I can't say anything yet on fuel economy as I remvoved the valve this late afternoon before a short ride (40km), but without the egr it's running way nicer above 2000rpm, so it's fine

Try unpluging it first & see if you get a problem. What was the condition of your EGR? Leaking ?

I've had my EGR vacume pipe remuved from the EGR actuator and plugged the rubber hose up for about a year now and no fault code or limp mode at all .
It runs much smoother, a bit more power , and the best of all is that it does not seem to overheat anymore even on hotter days .
Also towed my boat (950Kg) on average temperature days with no overheating issues (unless I am pushing it hard up on long hills trying to keep it at 100K/h).
Just remove the EGR valve and make sure that is not leaking or blocked in open position. A very small slight leak trough the valve should not matter to much but best if shuts properly .
There is no need to remove the vacume pump just leave everything else as it is .
Cheers,
Andre

need a blank between the EGR & manifold. It prevents engine damage if the EGR grenades. & yes I have one, the 98 that has suffered an EGR failure.
