Keep the harmonic damper on the tail of the tranny, sucks up a lot of vibrations- which otherwise could give you trouble.

Cool Idea MM.
Expect a lower fuel consumption about a liter.
At least this is the difference when you compare tow passengers cars with the same engine, one auto the other manual.
Is the ratios different between the two?

Yes, first gear is lower than petrol. 2nd to 5th is the same as petrol. Gives you some extra umph. Goes on my nerves when accelerating. Shifting, shifting, shifting...

As for fuel consumption years ago I went from 5sp manual to 4sp auto in a 3.0 litre Skyline, in stock form the auto's and manual's ran different gears in the diff with the auto being deeper so despite the fact that I had the taller diff gears of the manual the fuel consumption was about 0.4 l/100 higher then the manual,
I have also found the petrol Xj gets better fuel consumption if it revs a little higher then stock Sport revs....

One thing is you will not have the auto sapping the power.

Not a good idea fitting a NP242 box to a manual, my diesel had one but it ripped it apart and I swapped back to a NP231 (just a straight swap back) - the 242 is OK behind an auto, which does not let all the power straight through, it buffers it - with a manual it just destroyed it.
