dot aproved usualy will keep the pigs off ya back so long as their not rediculess size

I had 35's and only drove on them to the trail not daily. Got stopped by the booze bus a few times never had problems, one cop even said as he tried to get to me without getting covered in mud "nice to see a 4wd being used for what it wad built for".
Get some ear plugs they are loud on road the whole neighborhood will know you are coming it's like an airplane taking off!!

It is legal to run bias ply Tyres on passenger vehicles but they must be bias on all corners and the load and speed rating must meet or exceed the placard tyres.

I see you are in perth... but for other peoples general information in victoria bias ply tires are only legal if your car came out from factory with them (eg: some old landrovers and tractors ). Otherwise they need an engineering certificate to be compliant.

dot approved should mean you can drive them and if its in between trails you will be right anyway

Don't confuse US DOT with aussie state level DOT.
Also just cause it doesn't say "Not for Hwy use" doesn't mean it's legal. A swamper for example is generally not road legal (offically) because they are not speed rated.
A good starting point for reading is ADR42 - Section 25.
But remember your vehicle needs to comply with the rules it was complianced to.

but most cops in tassie (dont no if mainland is the same) most cops down ere dont know the laws great and if they seen dot and there was nothing there to say the wernt legal and a normal looking sized tyre they wouldnt bother u
