I have had no trouble at all with mine and as zerosecta said I wouldn't have it any other way.

Like Yom, downhill is no concern either.

Also the auto has a heap more torque than the manual variant.

Auto diesel is a great combination. Works well on road and works even better off road. The low down torque is great and means that is simply idles around a lot of tracks where a petrol engine would be pulling far higher revs so it always feels so relaxed and effortless. The only thing I would change if I could would be to add a manual select for 3rd for the slightly faster trails where 2nd isn't quick enough but you still don't want it in D but other than that I can't fault it.

yep ditto 07 auto diesel is awesome offroad did pretty much all of the simmo crossing in high range. if it had the tip tronic selection (like pajeros) of gears it'd be perfect.

I was always its gotta be a manual 4WDer but i've been converted.

with work i drive on a daily basis just about every commonly used 4WD available thats on the market and jeep kicks arse!!!

Thanks guys,
Ive currently got the manual diesel, and its been brilliant... on and off road and quiet on shooting trips. But going to look at an upgrade and an auto is preferable as it's been a problem having a manual on the odd occasion as the wife cant drive stick too well.
Thanks again!

I have a CRD man with the off road group. Reckon its perfect for me but then I have only one traffic light within a hundred km). Having said that, I have heard nothing but praise for the CRD auto, aside from potential overheating issues in sand. If you do any amount of distance/touring/towing work, then the diesel in either form is preferable to petrol in any form including the Rubicon, I reckon. Many in the States would give their left nut for a CRD option. I have heard the argument summed up as: don't think of the diesel as an expensive engine option but rather think of the petrol as a cheap one.
