Default What did you do to your Grand today?

The acceleration up a steep hill still blows me away.

Smile Upgraded front driveshaft

My Carolina Driveline Double Cardan front shaft arrived yesterday. Unfortunately it was supposed to arrive earlier in the week and be installed yesterday but I now have to wait until Monday to have it done.

Poly 4x4 in Melbourne are doing the work as I'm not brave enough yet to have a crack at it. It's a major problem if I stuffed it up during the install.

Has anyone installed the IRO HD tansmission plate and gained the extra 2" by doing so? i have to change engine and tranny mounts and I thought it would be a great time to install it as well.

This is how you'd know:
- if it's thumping over bumps while driving, it's swaybar bushes
- if it's clunking when selecting reverse and/or driving off, it's the front diff upper bushing
It's a clunk/crack (rather than a thump), but does not happen selecting reverse or driving off. It happens (mainly) when having about half to more right lock and going over bumps, like turning in or out of a driveway etc. It was very very apparent the other day when I did some mild 4wd'ing when the front was flexing. Thanks - I'll hunt up the thread with the ice cream lids.

Took mine for a drive on the Border Track, south and north, over the weekend. I had a ball, as did the Laredo!

Cheers

Checked out an engine noise that started over the last few days and discovered that it has a broken timing chain guide. Stripped out the radiator to be able to access the bottom pulley with a puller only to discover this car has been built around the engine. The amount of shit I had to remove just to get the radiator out amazed me. The first and probably the last Jeep I'll ever own

You gotta remind yourself that you're not working on 80's and 90's model vehicles anymore. I remember the days working on the 80's Commodores, nothing to it, look at the engine bay now. I don't even wanna mention the 70's cars. We used to say the similar for the 80's, lol.

Any vehicle post 2000 becomes like a nightmare to work on, due to all the luxuries (accessories) we have these days, especially in the current decade. If you think that it'll be any easier to remove a radiator out of a current Land Cruiser or a Patrol, good luck with that.
