Default Jk fuel consumption

Hi peoples

Bought my first Jeep (2011 jk unlimited 3.8l) about 6 months ago. So far got arb winch bar and 2" lift with ranchos. Next on the list is a set of 285 mtz. A bit worried about the fuel consumption and power decrease with the bigger tyres. Fuel consumption is already reading 18l/100km around town which i have been told is quite normal.
Does putting 285 tyres on the jk make a noticeable difference to power and fuel consumption? I'm hoping not enough for the missus to notice! Cheers.

18L / 100km??? You do know you dont have to hold the pedal to the floor right?

All jokes aside that is pretty shocking. Mines only a 2 door with ARB bar and 2.5in lift (but still stock tyres), but I am averaging around 12.5 with the missus driving and about 11.5 with me driving (she is a leadfoot). On a recent offroad trip, averaging 30km/hr in low range, I got 13.7 average by the end of the trip.

You have issues....

For starters welcome to AJOR

I agree with seacomms i have 35's no lift and cut my front bar and removed the plastic wind cutter from underneath it, i average 14L/100 and i have a heavy foot i havent re geared or anything like that and my fuel economy is pretty good considering how i drive, maybe have your mechanic run over it?

Good luck with it

Thanks everyone for their input

After reading your replays and a few other ones from different threads I'm gonna try a couple of different driving practices. Firstly I'm gonna go a bit easier on the right foot and secondly I'm gonna try 95 fuel over e10.

Im driving from Sydney to Bendalong on Friday night So goin to reset the trip computer and hope for some good news. If stil lno luck looks like another trip back to the dealer.

Forgot to mention before the 18l/km reading was city driving The jk is an automatic and has done under 5000km. How long until they are "worn" in and start reading better consumptom rates?

I would say for a auto 14 to 15 around town would be a bit high. But 18 is excessive. When you change to 33 you need to get the speedo recalibrated, I thank the dealer can do or get yours self a procal and do it yourself.
