Default Buying tips

Hi Guys

for the knowledgeable of you, found an 06 kj sport, has 116k on the clock for $14k
now my concern is, to my knowledge the timing belts need to be done at 100k km, spoke to the guy and according to his mechanic the book says 160k on this model?
who is having who on or is this true?
and is this a semi decent price? he has done a 2inch lift recently and new rubber, new shocks and a few other things

comments?

The U.S spec is 160,000km (aprox 100,000 miles).

Forget it, in Australia its 100,000kms. When they come in on a flatbed with a broken belt they have done 110, 120, 130K at most.

Regards
Daz

Don't even consider driving it if it hasn't been done. Get it done as a deal to buy it. There are enough around that you can be fussy.

awesome, thanks guys, what I was thinking

Ok now the next big question, would do this myself ordinarily, BUT! I'll be flying down to brassy from cairns to pick this up, so will need to get it done in brassy before the big drive up. Is there anywhere decent in Brisbane that knows what they doing and isn't going to charge the earth! will obviously talk him down because of it, but would then rather have it sorted myself so I know!

Timing belt etc would probably cost upwards of $1500 parts and labour. Check with Darren for a more accurate price.

Price wise I would say $14,000 is top dollar, so you want a top vehicle. Make sure no fault codes exist before buying as they can be expensive. Really need to run a scan tool on it to check for codes. The current fault on mine would cost 2 grand plus if you sent it to the dealer, and it drives perfectly if you clear the code after starting the car. So things can be tricky. Make sure the check engine light comes on initially to check the light, then goes out after the check time. If it does not, be very wary.
