Thanks to everyone for this information, especially ARB Tripper for the link to the TSB. I will get the right people to clear the fault off the computer and hopefully it stays off.

Ozzie, owners don't get them, service depts do and it's one of the things they used to implement only if asked (probably coz they didn't get paid to do it!).

Yeah, I had an air bag light come on my old WG and took it to the dealer. The b@stards told me to leave the car for a whole day with them. The next day I went to pick the car up and they said that all they did was clear the code with the scantool and took it for a test drive and it didn't reappear. Also, they said if it reappears, to bring it in so they can see what else could be done.

I thought, couldn't it have been done the same day if it was only involving clearing the code. Also they charged me $130 for that and guess what??? The code came on again the next day!!! That's when I bought myself a SuperChips Tuner.

I rang them back and complained, all they said that they can't reimburse me as it was part of their "small cost" procedure (yeah right, 1 minute to clear the code and 5 mins drive test) and the next step was to replace the costly module. I said no thanks.

EDIT: To check your code on the EVIC, do the following: with the key in OFF position, go: ON => OFF => ON => OFF => ON (but do not START). The code should be displayed, write it down and post it here. If there's no code stored, it should say 'done' in lower case.

I have triggered this a few times, and mostly it has been a loss of communication to the wheel speed sensors. But also from lack of engagement of low range, and loss of communication to the front diff solenoid. (ie dirt and mud on the connectors).

Alot of the time its one of the front wheel speed sensors as Valpacer just pointed out. You do need to go to the dealer to find out which side is buggered though. Pretty common on the higher klm WH's. The sensors just fail after a while.

As soon as you click in the new one (easy job) and drive down the road, as soon as the car hits 40kph it resets and should clear with an audible chime.

Was there any resolution to this? I have the same issue. My RHF wheel sensor went and was replaced which fixed the ABS warning light but my dash still says "Service 4WD System" when trying to engage 4Low. I have tried the ignition on off sequence with nothing appearing on dash and plugged my iOBD2 in which only brought up a "glowplug open circuit" which the circuit would be open if engine is running. I might start pulling fuses to see if any are blown.
