Default Rear Vision Mirror Glue

went to get in the Jeep today and found the rear vision mirror was dangling by the wires that run the map lights and compass.

the glue must have let go. warmish sort of day about 35 C, not what I would class as stinking hot, but the vehicle is parked in the sun as it often is.

there is a clear plastic patch about 0.5mm thick on the windscreen the same shape as the metal thing in the mirror that attaches to the windscreen

any clues how to fix this?

Mines done that twice since 2005. O just replaced it with a new glue kit from the local car shop.

ended up buying a Permatex glue kit from supercrap.

mixed reviews of this product from being rubbish to being very good, so as a precaution I bought another Dynagrip kit in case the latter failed

firstly I scraped off the remaining old glue and cleaned the windscreen with isopropyl alcohol, plus emeried the button. followed the instructions and after an hour of the button being glued in place with masking tape, I then attached the mirror. so far so good, even with the car sitting in the sun.

there is a Loctite kit available and sold separately is 0.5mm thick mirror bonder that is like a thin plastic sheet that covers the area where the button goes. it hides the ugly appearance of the button and mirror assy from the outside and absorbs differences of thermal expansion. this is what was there when the mirror fell off in the first place. I would have preferred this kit, but its not in stock near where I live. if the current repair eventually fails I may try this

Before the Jeep I had a car with a very stiff mirror. Any time anybody tried to adjust the mirror it would break off. I tried some of the special mirror fixing kits including the Loctite and nothing worked. I ended up mixing a bit of two part epoxy and taping the mirror to the screen whilst it set. It never came off again.
