Default 4wd selection-what's correct procedure?

I'm sure in my owners manual somewhere it states that part time 4X4 with selectrac can be selected at any speed up to 100kmh................have I read this wrong? as I saw another thread on this forum stating that you should stop..select neutral in the auto...select part time 4x4...then reselect drive and drive off.
I did it by stopping tody on a really wet slippery dirt road and it all went well, but I still had the other method in my mind but erred on the safe side.
My Landcruiser could be selected on the go, provided the hubs were locked of course.

Still getting all the good knowledge on my Jeep.

Cheers

slow down to 10-20kmph and then pull the lever up. the only time you should select Neutral is when you are bogged on the spot. because it takes motion for the gearing to engage hence why you drive slowly for it to mesh. mine has all the information on selecting the 4wd mode on the sunvisor. not sure on yours.

Ok lets clear the air
If you are selecting PART TIME 4x4 (orange light) HIGH RANGE then you can do it on the fly but I would slow down to about 20 - 30 kph.

For Full Time 4x4 (green little green light) then you can safely select it up to approx 100 k but I find it better to be below 80 kph.

If going into LOW Range 4x4 then you must basically stop put transmission into neutral before selecting LOW range Part Time

The manual states to select low range:
Slow the vehicle to 3-5 kph, shift transmission into Neutral, then shift transfercase to the right and pull firmly rearward to 4 LO.

High range, either part time ( orange light same as low range for non sealed surface only ), or full time ( green light for use on any surface ), can be shifted into at any speed up to 100 kph while rolling with the transmission in neutral.

Do not shift when standing still for any of them.

So you slow down to 20-30km/h to go from 2wd to 4HiPart - then you speed upto 80km/h to go from 4hiPart to 4HiFull?

As GoJeep said upto 100kph will not hurt anything between 2wd/4HiPart/4HiFull.... We do it all the time in ours - especially since we see lots of dirt/bitumen/dirt/bitumen/etc driving....
