Lifts, tyres and LSD
Hi All,
Well I've now owned my 2000 XJ for about 3 weeks and have only really taken it offroad once up to Stockton beach. Went with a few long time 4WD guys from the Toyota Landcruiser Club and had a great time. The only problem was my XJ is running the standard 225/75 tyres. I'm planning on replacing these with 30x9.5 shortly but will they fit a 2000 XJ Sport with no rubbing?? If not how high do I need to go.
Also, all the lift kits I've seen specify a lift height but is this over the 'limited' height or the higher 'Sport'
One last question, does the Sport come with a LSD as standard or was it an option. If it was an option how can I tell.
Cheers
Steve

Lifts, tyres and LSD
Hi,
I ran 30 * 9.5 on close to stock height. Slight rubs at full articulation on rear axle, not much just noticable. Had to add a washer or two to the steering end stops to stop rub on LCAs at full lock. I think also just rubs a tiny amount on wheel arch at full lock plus wheel full up in arch when reversing in 4wd. Must be some compression/flex of control arm bushing that happens only in reverse I guess.
If you have mud flaps these are very easy to rip off going backwards with 30s. I lost count of how many times I have done it.
Lift heights are usually quoted over "stock" height. Limited XJ were mostly stock into Aus. Sports were mostly "upcountry" 1" lift.
Nearly all XJ into Aus came with LSD "trashlock", skidplate group, electric locks, windows etc etc etc all of which are options in the US.

Thanks for the info, a little rubbing is fine with me until I decide on the lift I'm after.
Everything else confirms what I thought, good to know.
Cheers

Lifts, tyres and LSD
Here's an update on what rubbed for me...
Nothing... that's right, with the rear wheels fully stuffed nothing rubs, I've tried this crossed up in a ditch and had the drivers side rear off the ground and the XJ way over on it's side. No problems at all at the rear.
I don't get any rubbing on the LCA's at the front on full lock and haven't had any contact with the inner liner or the wheel arch. Haven't had the oppertunity to really stuff the front right up in there yet but it has gone a long way not sure if it was on the bumpstops though.
Anyway, the tyres are BFG All Terrains and suffice to say I'm much much happier with the new tyres on. I just need to test them properly now I think I might try disconnecting the front swaybar and see where it rubs first. I'm afraid the bug has bitten now and I'm hanging out to get some rocker protection and some lift over the standard Sport. The wallet needs to recover first though :(
Cheers
