Default Will TJ rims fit straight on a XJ?

I thought that TJ rims were a direct fit to the XJ, the reason for the question is that I have spotted a couple of sets of 15x7 sunraisier style rims on ebay but the seller says they wont fit a XJ. They are 4.25" back spacing and it sounds like it's a tyre joint that's selling excess stock.

If they fit a TJ they will fit an XJ. I have chrome TJ wheels on mine.

EDIT: Standard backspacing is 5.25" - so they will stick out more, normally you wouldn't go below 4.5", what size tires are you running?

Tj rims and Xj rims share the same stud pattern, the back spacing can be misleading as it depends on where it is measured, having said that they will be illegal due to the track increase....

Backspacing is always measured from the edge of the inside rim to the wheel mounting surface.

Wheel offset (not backspacing) is measured from the center of the rim to the wheel mounting surface.

Nothing misleading about that.

That measurement you are referring to is the rolled out edge on a steel rim, not all rims especially alloys have this rolled out section, if you were to measure from the inside flat section of the rim you get a different measurement, so there can be variations....

Not quite sure what you are talking about. Are you referring to the lip that the bead seats against? If so the rolled edge of a steel wheel and the cast edge of an alloy will be very close in size.

Also when I said backspacing is measured from the edge of the inside rim I didn't specify whether it was measured from the inner edge or the outer edge as I am not sure. If it is measured from the inside edge than it will make no difference.
