WH's offroad.
So how do WH's go off road compared to WJ/G's??
That's a pretty important question. I hear wj-g have wobble of death when lifted, is this the same with WH??
I want to buy a V8 Grand Cherokee Limited next year, But I'm not sure if I would want a WH or WJg.
I would want to do a few mods to it to make it go better off road; lift, tyres, etc.
Problem is, should I buy a 4.7 Limited WJ-G for about 10-15K and pay cash up front, which will come out of my house deposit savings which will obviously set me back from buy a house for a bit longer,
Or get a house loan and tag a 5.7L WH on the end of that.
Also if I was to get a WH it will probably be my only vehicle. I'd sell my Patriot which would give me some extra cash towards it.
But if I get a WjG, Ill keep my patriot as a daily drive. Use the wj as a weekend fun vehicle.
I think WJg would be good because they lot cheaper and insurance will be less, but is it worth it due to the higher chance of needing repairs compared to a WH.
SO basically is it worth going more into debt for a WH or just settle for a WJG
Sorry if this is a confusing post, but I'm confused too.

WH has independant front end so wont get death wobble but is a lot harder (& more expensive) to lift more than 2". It also has far less front suspension travel which limits it offroad a bit.If you get the quadra-drive II ,tho, you get lockers all round which make up for any lack of suspension travel.
I reckon , for a more offroad oriented 4wd your better off with the WJ/G & get lockers + IRO 4" long arm .

Thanks for that info. I have no idea about all the technical stuff of 4wding yet, I'm still learning, so I only understood part of your post.

Lockers dont make up for a lack of suspension travel you are still better of having your wheels on the ground where they can get drive than in the air.

True , but I have seen IFS vehicles with lockers go further than live axle with open diffs.
Obviously the best is to have both.

Mate - you seem to have your head screwed on for a 19 y/o.
A house is by far the most important if you are in a situation to do so. You can get a car anytime. Once you get the house and get into the market, then you can use it as equity as you mentioned to get a better car.
Depending on how much deposit you have depends on if you can get them both at the same time. Most likely with your first house, you will require LMI (Lenders Mortgage Insurance for loans that are over 80% of the value of the property).
To buy a car and increase your LMI percentage and therefore substantially increase the premium is not a wise move financially.
So in other words, buy the cheap WJ now, wait a couple of years for the value of the home to go up and the WH price to come down, and then update.

Hey Ben,
What pmac said is good advice.
On the WH, i had a very similar decision when i got mine, especially as its the missus daily (inc putting twins and their pram in and out of the car each day). With the QDII (mines also a diesel) a 50mm lift and 32" tyres, im doing more tracks now easier than my previous 80 series with 3" and 33's. And its a dream on the road and round town.
Took it out to Scenic rim last month and got through all of the double diamond tracks and got lost on the patrol road down the rear of the park, and made it through (this road was designated red) much to the surprise of the pair of twin locked patrols we caught up to.
Just have to make sure i polish it before the missus sees it next time i go out, lantana is awesome for pinstipes.....
Its never going to be as good as a WJ with 4+ in of lift and lockers, but a lot better to drive everywhere else.
Dave
