Guess this has been answered quite a few times before.
It is not too hard to convert and quite a few had done that before. The hardest part is to get all correct parts especially ECM and PCM as some of those are tied to VIN no.
So unless you have good connections with logistics to import things from US or you have too much money that you want to give some to dealerships, and your JK is heavily modified, it doesn't worth the hassle for the conversion.

I've been planning for the big swap for quite awhile now..... I've got all the parts but you need to have good access to ECU reprogramming facilities to swap you existing VIN into the auto ECU ( they are different to the manual ) and Jeep dealers aren't into mods. Apparently their tools will identify your existing VIN as a manual and refuse to reflash with auto code..... makes sense as F'up prevention but in this case that 's exactly whats needed.

There are also engine bay wiring loom differences ( not the extra auto loom ) that also make things a challenge.... things like reverse lights , neutral inhibitor etc etc....

And the killer is the auto isn't a fantastic auto..... so you do all the work to swap from a pretty average manual to a pretty average auto.

I want to.... sort of..... but the more i think about it the less convinced i am its actually worth doing

yeah i was tossing up if the manual lunches itself to go auto but seems like a ball ache just stick with it and start looking for a spare box. Are they prone to exploding or do they just get noisy due to bearing failures??

Probably better off buying a late sport and swapping all the good bits out.

Yep.... that's exactly my motivation but the manual just won't die.

They just seem to be a bit noisy, have bearing and synchro problems..... but don't seem to actually totally fail very often.

Perhaps one day i'll swap but that days not today !
