Jeep only make a RHD model for export, whether it be UK (euro), Australia, South Africa, etc. So in line with your thoughts of a production line decision, they probably decided to only manufacture one design for the front subframe for all RHD markets. They would have two different LHD subframes. One for euro and export, and one for the Americas.

It will be interesting to see what the Trailhawk has when it gets here.

Interesting facts! The wk2 is nothing more but a city driving car with a bit of squirt on gravel. I purposely bought it thinking I'd like to try going off road as a beginner, and hence searching for a bolt on recovery point solution.. It is only an "if you get bogged" situation, you'd like to have the recovery points handy.. Gives me lesser confidence taking it off road now, my model only has a single button for 4wd low, and no transfer case what ever that means . Sorry, I'm foreign to 4wd.

Hi imaz, not sure where you're located but as a suggestion you may want to seek out your local Jeep 4WD club. The WK2 like any Jeep can be very capable off road but it will always come down to driver experience, confidence and skill.
With my first Jeep, the KJ, I joined the Melbourne Jeep Owners Club, attended their driver training day and participated in several of their newbie trips.
Over time my understanding of my Jeeps capability increased, as did my offroad driving skill.
With my new WK2, absolutely I'm being a little more cautious, but definitely kitting it out to go offroad. My main hesitation at the moment is to get some decent tyres on to replace the Khumos, but once a new set of Yokohamas or Bridgestone LT's go on in the next few months, it'll be watch this space.

Hi Imaz, I agree, you should definitely do 4x4 driver course, and joining a 4x4 club is also a good idea for any one new to the 4x4 family!.

If your GC has the low 4wd button, then it is "a real 4x4" and DOES have a transfer case. (This allows you to select low range gearing, which gives you more control when off road). (Very basic description)

This is my 2011 Laredo CRD, steel spring suspension, 50mm suspension lift and some better tyres.

Book a off road driving course, join a 4x4 (jeep) club, learn some more about your jeep, you'll love it (you can't learn to drive your 4x4 on the net).

Seriously? I have the transfer case?? - Silly as it sounds, but without the transfer case you dont have the 4WD button?

Yes you have a transfer case. Read up about your 4wd system, you also have low range which is more than many other competitors and it has probably the best 4wd brake traction control system on the market. Rest assured your jeep can do whatever any other off the showroom 4x4 can do off road, depending on driver skill of course.
