It's on the bottom of the steering rack, the opposite end of your steering wheel, very close to the front crossmember so you have to undo your steering rack & try to move it back. It also has this stupid star type nut on it that you have to get an E20 Torx socket that probably wont fit properly & I cannot budge mine at the moment but will get back to it later on.
Have loaded an image of mine, don't know how I got the camera in there but looks ok.
You can see how close it is to the crossmember in front of it on the right.
Cheers
Mike

Hi Lads
I have play in my rack. Will adjusting this remove that play?
Many thanks.

In some cases it will remove the knock completely, mine still has a slight knock.
Check rack tie rod ends etc for wear also .As I said previously the E20 torx has to have the outside turned down,or ground down to fit nicely inside the hollow area as per photo in mikelaws thread.

Hi bjm
All other steering components have been checked and found to be in good health. I was hoping for an easy fix of the play I my rack, like turning the adjuster on a wj box. Would appear not though

Well, the steering rack has to come out, could not move the adjuster no matter how much freeze spray I used, it is now too damaged.
Still cant find any info on how it comes out & not game to ask any dealers to do it as i'll have to rob a bank to pay for it. Have asked the wreckers but they just gut everything out so the motor's not in there.
Life wasn't meant to be easy when you buy a Jeep apparently.

google . 2007 WK Jeep Grand Cherokee steering rack replacement.
is for the v8. I am pretty sure you do not have to worry about the diff or engine in the diesel.WK is US ,WH Aus. or ring up Richard at JeepsRUS in Coffs Harbour. Think he may have done a few.

Thanks bjm, I tried that wording & still couldn't find that exact one but came up with one from jeepforum.com which seems to explain it, still not sure if its the one with the 3 litre Diesel, it did say 2007 CRD but also mentions the Hemi motor, looks like the one tho.
Have got a bloke to do it & can get a second hand rack which is supposed to be a good one ( lol ) just in case mine's too far gone.

Oops, my mistake, it was jeepgarage.org that I went to, now trying to figure out if those instructions are for Left or Right hand drive. If the front diff has to be moved it might be left hand drive.
