Name and shame. I have no idea who the culprits are.

I have heard stories of them putting cars on hoist standard suspension inspection and then refusing to release the car saying the suspension is defective and its against the law to release the car. Blackmailing the owners to pay thousands....

That is a totally illegal thing to do. They do not have any right at all to hold a customers vehicle like that. They are not transport inspectors nor police. This would never happen in my workshop. Threaten them to call the police for refusing to release the vehicle and take it up with the dept. of fair trading in your state. The only thing that I could do being a roadworthy examiner was report an unsafe vehicle to the transport department. I most certainly was not in any legal way able to "impound" the vehicle whatsoever.

Ex wife dropped her car into the dealer for a fixed price service many years ago now. She went to pick it up and was told she could not drive it away as there was a crack in the windscreen! Despite her being very feisty they would not budge. It only ended when I called the owner and had a few words with him.

The crack was not in an area or of a length that made it illegal to drive either.

As I said. Totally illegal to do that. Scaremongering tactics. I bet they would not have done it if it was a male. Name and shame.

Let me guess, the company in question has an animal in its logo?
It's not a bird
It's not a pig or sheep
It's not a type of fish...mmmoo

The should be RED faced about the whole thing.
