I heard the same thing years ago when I was living in Cairns & that somebody had found it, apparently pulling Harley's & Jeeps out wrapped in oiled canvas. Just doing one here & one there every 12months or so.
Heard it second hand though, you know the old someone who knows someone who heard it from someone thing.

There is one off the coast. They pushed scores of fighter planes off the edge of their aircraft carriers as they left Brisbane and headed back to the States.

Back in the 90's there was a floating hotel anchored off the QLD coast. They had to move it as it was found to be sitting directly over a bomb dump

There's another dive site like this in the Red Sea, I think its called Raas Um Siid. It's on the South Sinai peninsular somewhere.

As the American's left Egypt they didn't want to take the fleet so they pushed it all down the bank from the top and into the sea. It's an amazing dive site with Jeeps, tanks, trailers, motorbikes, trucks. I think if I look hard enough i'll find some pictures I took
