One of the other videos on Pat Calanan's eMag had two snatch straps connected with a shackle...The Poms seem to be good at the Darwinism stuff as well as the Russians. Saw a YouTube recently where an idiot is jumping his early Disco in a quarry - favourite 4WD venue for Poms it seems - until he bursts a tyre and bends the chassis.

I'm still amazed that there's even any discussion about this at-all; anything under significant tension should be secured at each end with a slack backup line/strap... basic rigging 101.
Much safer and easier to just have short straps on each end of the main strap and you're done.
