Unhappy Need Assistance: HOAT or OAT

Sorry, another HOAT and OAT dillema...

So I’ve got a 2013 JK built last July 2013 but with a 2014 compliance year when I purchased it.

About time to flush its coolant and top up with a fresh one.

However, I’ve done my research and found that Chrysler changed JK’s coolants to OAT from 2013 onwards. But my user manual is saying I have to use the HOAT.

Does anyone here have the same issue before? Which one do I need to use? HOAT or OAT?

Thanks in advance!

As Stressball said, I'd speak with your local dealership as they will be able to advise you. They have the datasheet releases from FCA so will know what to use.

Dealerships are known to mix coolants, which causes cooling system damage due to turning to gel and clogging the system up.

Either way ensure you take special care in flushing the system.

Ayt, rang the dealership and asked about which one to use. To my surprise they have no idea what I’m talking about. They just told me they only have the 5-year and the 10-year coolants and that they are genuine Mopar.

Not much of a help so I rang Chrysler Customer service and was referred another dealership near my area. They have confirmed that 2013 JK’s use OAT and not the HOAT that the manual is saying. Manuals are not updated according to them.

Watch out 2013 JK owners. Might worth checking your coolants and save your engine.

After that phone call earlier, I am convinced that they (my dealership) do not know the difference between OAT and HOAT and that’s a bit concercning if you do not check what they have done on your vehicle after servicing it.
