Years ago now I bought a CJ6 that had a holden 4 cylinder motor(star fire) and the gear box and transfer case were in two different buckets completely dismantled and had been so for a very long time with surface rust over everything so me and the boys sat down and sorted all the needle rollers into groups that matched and then proceeded to clean them up best we could rubbing them in-between our hands full of sand to get rid of the rust then washed them up, did the same with the gears and shafts as best we could with some fine emery paper they cleaned up pretty good and they all worked fine.
It was only used for a paddock thrasher so no high speed stuff but you could not hear anything above the engine noise anyway.
