Unhappy Dis Cap+Rotor+Sparks+Leads = NO START

Hey all, thought I'd post before I hurt myself or the car. Did a simple semi-tune today. Took a trip to Repco in Osborne Park and grabbed a Dis Cap, Rotor, Sparks n Leads, all decent makes. Did a full change when I got home. Now, here's the weird thing - I swear when I looked up the firing order while I was doing the cap, I found the previous owner (Ive only had it 6 months) had the leads set up in another order. I thought "well this'll run even better when I put them in the right order". I rush ahead, not bothering to record the odd order they were in. I finish the job and........nothing. Go to start up, lots of cranking, no sparking. Rotor is turning for sure. I took it all apart and did it again. Twice. Three times. I've done a couple of hours of reading around, tried a few weird things (lock and unlock the passenger power door to reset the flux capacitor....wtf.....) but nothing. Let it rest for a bit. Tried again. Nothing......any suggests?

Put the old cap back on? Or old rotor? Maybe faulty items? And you have the wires correct? Also.... Silly question, but you did connect the coil yes?

no silly questions...or suggestions. I've checked Im getting a spark off the high tension lead from the coil. The leads are in the firing order I've read. Got a stumped mechanic friend coming over in the morn. Is there any world where it could have worked on an alternative firing order?? Is that even a thing?

no, an alternative firing order is not a thing, if it was hooked up wrong it would have run like a dog, if at all.
did you interfere with the cam sensor in the bottom of the dizzy? or it's wire that comes out of side of the dizzy & its plug?. that would be a show stopper.

Also you can get 2 different roters ( at least you can in the USA)the new roter is the same shape as the old one?Ive only ever seen the one kind on Aus jeeps.

are you getting just one spark of the coil at the start, or a strong continious spark for the whole crank?
Also are you getting a spark at the spark plugs?

I have learned to take pics of anything that involves wires befor fvking with it.
good luck with it.

Have you put the dizzy cap back on 180 degrees out of whack?

4.0 jeep use the usual 153624 order.

Good luck.

Default spark

If your getting spark from the coil then it can only be the rotor button or the cap. Not having owned a jeep with a distributer I'd be checking the rotor button to look for a difference in height or length of the arm. Check the cap to see if the centre carbon tip is still there and not stuck As some are spring loaded. Very rare but you can have a rotor button shorting through the metal tap that the distributor shaft locates on.
If that all looks good swap back the old rotor button and cap and it should run. Also check your not out 180 degrees as suggested.

Heres the firing order if you don't have it yet.

One way to get things right is to follow the above picture but turn the crankshaft until piston 1 is on top dead center (TDC) and on the fire (explosion) cycle (cylinder 1 cams have to have a very small amount of play on top of inlet-outlet valve shafts) at this stage .
Than next step is to align the rotor in such a way that it lines up and faces the cylinder 1 position on the distributor cap . Put the leads in the order shown in the picture This way the timing would be correct and if there is spark, petrol and air it should start up .
Once running it would need a few small adjustments to get the timing advance in optimal position .
