Default Fault

I bought an original elm device that connects with blue tooth to the wgdiag app ,the free version not the pro version.
Went through the motions and did not pick up any faults.
The engine check light in yellow is still there
Put in a new varta battery and booked for trans specialist to look at the issue.
Apart from this issue the WJ is in spectacular condition, inside and outside.
So hopefully it will be all good for the next few years.

Okay - I am puzzled that you have the light without a code. Did you check for both engine and driveline codes?

I would recommend a Jeep specialist over a transmission specialist.

Before i spend money on the mechanic I would seriously get the WJ Diag Pro version and as JeanLuke mentioned read all the codes.

I had also transmission issues from the beginning. My Radiator got ripped due to a fan failure and from there on all went downhill.
I had suddenly the camshaft sensor error coming on, the transfercase position error coming on, the transmission did not shift, just like your case, the transmission slipped and the car did not move at all (had to tow it back home 2x), it went into limp mode and on and on and on.

What I simply did, was changing the cam shaft sensor (takes less than 10 min), I replace the transmission plug adaptor which can be flooded with tranny oil (Genuine Mercedes Transmission 13-Pin Connector Adapter Plug 722.6xx 2035400253, eBay for 50 Dollar genuine MB or 20 Dollar Chinese Knockoff), replaced my battery which was on the way out (Costco 250 Dollar with 900 CCA) and I replaced my gear selector PCB with this one (https://jeepswj.com/shop/), esp. after the PCB change all my problems went away and the car was behaving normal again. As OffroadSpike mentioned if you are selecting gears and the little LED next to the gear does not light up, your PCB is gone and needs to be replaced. You can get refurbished in Australia but they are almost as expensive as the one from the jeepswj / WJ Diag team (they are the same afaik). I would recommend the latter since it is brand new and has a better design less prone to fail.

Changing the plug and the PCB board can take a bit longer but is doable. For the PCB board you need to take the middle console out to get under the sifter. For the plug get you self some jack stands and a oil pan. When you take it out, you most likely have tranny oil pouring out (was at least in my case), but elsewise it is a easy job to do. I had to go some extra miles since my wires were poking out and I had to re-insulate some of them, making sure they do not cause any short circuit. It is all documented in the Forum if you go back to about beginning of 2022.

Default Checked

Hi Jeanluke, checked both engine and driveline codes
Nothing came up.
The reason I am going to the trans guy is he seems genuine,( sorted out my BMW trans that was acting like crazy after a trans service by resetting the computer for free) and on the other hand the Jeep stealership charged me a big amount to replace steering pump and lines ( after about 6 weeks in the stealership is when the gearbox issue started).
I don't have the time and space atm to pull everything apart and put it back @joergm.
Just need it fixed as I am going to park all the vehicles for next 3 months 😁 as a result of bad behaviour in the Focus RS . Anyway will see what the transmission guy says on the 7th . maybe will get the diagpro and have a look just to learn what the issue is and for the future.
WJ has served it's purpose of going to Alice Springs 2 years in a row for the Finke desert race and prerunning, etc
Has been a great car for the last 89k kms except on the occasions when dealer services it in Horsham and now in werribee.
Any recommendations for a jeep mechanic near Hopper's crossing Victoria would be greatly appreciated.

Default Update

Trans specialist ( Techtrans, Hopper's crossing) cleared the codes that showed up and Jeep is back in business.
Battery voltage is the main suspect as Jeep was not driven much leading to battery being on its way out.
New Varta battery and Jeep runs as it should.

Highly recommend Techtrans for a honest and great job in dealing 2 cars of mine with auto transmission.
$120 was the charge today.

If this is what caused your issue, I am sure with the right ODBII interface and the WJ Diag pro app you could have done it yourself. I know this because I did it. The pro version shows such kind or errors. I guess the free does not show all of them.

I also had battery voltage issues since mine was on its way out. This could have saved you about 70 to 80 bucks and next time it shows up you can do it in 5 min. compared to waiting for several days till you can bring it to the mechanic. You can still leverage the mechanic but I would only do it for those cases where its really necessary.
