Default 2.7 CRD power off the line

I've heard stories of 2.7's leaving off the line really strong, but it was second-hand info...until today.

A guy contacted me about a TCU tune. He had a 2.7 that was really quick off the line, easily breaking traction without a lot of throttle input. At one point he swapped engine, transmission and torque converter and the behavior was gone.
He then tried a "stronger" torque converter but that did not bring back the behavior off the line.

Just from the engine / transmission / torque converter swap, this makes me think it's either something in the valvebody, or some differences in the converter.

I also have some information about the 320cdi valvebody making the car feel like it's more powerful but I did not have time to try a 320cdi valvebody.

Could some pressure increase due to the valvebody make it launch faster off the line?

I'm thinking of putting a Sonnax valve body kit for quite a while, I just can't find the time. Maybe next gearbox oil change will finally motivate me.
I remember Alex from LegitStreetCars on youtube putting similar kit to a 320 CDI several years ago and being quite happy with the result -
.

So back to the original question - could changing the transmission and therefore changing the valve body be just getting a more worn out one and having reduced pressure that we are just thinking of being normal now all WJs are 20-22 years old

The swap was done to install a much lower mileage drivetrain....

I had a rebuilt valvebody and rebuilt converter installed, it still did not jump off the line as my customer said.
