Did you go petrol or diesel on the Rubi? 69 fully loaded sounds like a decent price, all the searches I've done bring up the Rubicons at about 69 before any options are added.

The Toyota ute is ubiquitous in regional and outback areas because there are Toyota dealers and service centres/parts all over the country. If we lived out there, we would more than likely drive these cars (government, mining, ngo, rural etc) for practicality, no matter our preference for other makes.

I honestly don't know where the gladiator fits in the market at the price it is going to be listed. Maybe it will be a Mercedes Benz competitor? Maybe FCA does not want it cannibalising sales of the JL/U? It won't sway Ranger/BT-50, Hilux, Triton, Nissan or Isuzu buyers who can use the spare change to option their rigs to the max.

I like the gladiator and hope it will sell and be around for some time. Personally, I would have liked to see an Africa concept in the JLU hit production.

I suspect that FCA sees the RAM brand as competition for the Gladiator. If a person questions the towing capacity the dealer will say "get the RAM instead!"

RAM is not part of FCA offer in Australia tho.. Some other dude imported the RAMs and with RHD conversion done here.

On the side note, not sure how long will FCA remain here in Aus, Jeep new car sales were down to just around 5000 in last year (including all jeep models).

Jeep popularity is smaller than we Jeepers think. In the US, when both the new Suzuki Jimny and the Honda Civic Type R came out it was near impossible to buy one at RRP. They were so popular that sales created a shortage and Dealers were putting insane markups above RRP and still selling them all. Popularity aside, and maybe a result of the low $AUD, Jeep prices in Aus are way too high. I mean, $50K for a short wheel base Wrangler Sport, it’s just not a $50K car. And yes, I couldn’t help but buy one (justified as a work vehicle for my company) and I think it’s a $40K car. I like it but just not the price.
