Default 79 CJ7 hood rubber seal channel - rust...

I havent pulled the rubber out yet - but I suspect I have a water leak behind/under the hood rubber shown.

Seems like a likely spot given its a channel and all.

If I pull the rubber out (its glued in) I may damage it and of course have to replace it.

the water seems to be appearing down the front fire wall and ending up in the foot well and I cant see how else its getting in.

It’s common.

Happens in TJ’s as well - similar issue, I fixed mine as the alternative was rust. Back in the late 80’s early 90’s I had a Toyota Celica with a leaking rear windscreen rubber. I ignored it until one day there was a loud bang. The spare tyre fell through the rusted floor onto the fuel tank !

Have a read is this US forum thread, should guide you in the right direction as there are several possible causes -
