Default US style number plate holder

My number plate is slowly coming loose from my rear bumper (relocated with a tow bar kit...) and before it gets completely ripped off and I lose it, I'm looking to relocate it.

Does anyone know if it's legal to run the plate under the passengers side tail light like the factory US Jeeps do?

I'm thinking of getting the parts to do it and also the new MyPlates sizes allow what is effectively a US 12"x6" number plate....

Cheers in advance

My plate is currently located passenger side - on the bumper though. I did get pinged once at an inspection because the plate was bent at more than a 5 degree angle to the vertical or something. I offered to bend it back right there but that is a no-no, apparently..

This is from Vic Roads - I would imagine most states are similar. Looks like you should be fine.

Displaying number plates
All vehicles registered in Victoria must have number plates that are:

clearly visible from a distance of 20m
displayed at the front and back of the vehicle (except for motorbikes and trailer - these only need one number plate attached to the back at least 30cm off the ground).
All number plates should be:

affixed in an upright position
no more than 1.3m off the ground
clean
free from covers, tints or other reflective surfaces that could interfere with plate reading devices
If your vehicle makes it difficult for you to meet these requirements, you need to make them as closely as possible.

I got sick of my number plate falling off, the mopar relocation kit is
just screws into the bumper so I fitted a US style holder. Never had
an issue in the NT and just moved to QLD and no issues here either.
Just use the factory holder so it all looks like it’s meant to be there.

I have since fitted a different bumper but still have the US plate holder.

My plate is in NSW....its a USA sized plate and mounted in the factory (US) holder. I've had a cop inspect the plate and ask me if the plates were RTA issued....(he hadn't seen the USA size before). Once he was satisfied wit hthe plates he left....made no remark at all on the plate position...clearly visible from behind.
