Thumbs down hows this for a computer glitch

stopped at the beach for brekky and walk the dog today, got back in the jeep and went to start it and nothing ,then the gauges went ballistic spinning around and making a groaning noise from inside the dash ,nothing worked even took the key out of the ignition and it kept doing it,keyed it a few more times b4 it stopped doing it then it started but wouldnt hold idle kept cutting out finally i held the revs and it went.it reset the trip meter and trip computer as well.
anyone had this b4? or is the fecking thing possessed? i cant wait to see what the stealership hit me up for this one.btw thw airbag light and chime keep coming on also.

This happened to me a couple of years ago when I was having battery troubles. I think from memory that it was a dodgy battery that wasn't quite dead but didn't have enough juice to start the car. Think that the gauges thing is from the immobiliser cuting in with the low charge. I can't remember the airbag light and chime going but suggest you have a look at your battery first (such as if it is holding a charge etc) and if your alternator is charging the battery.

Spot on Roachy,
It is a symptom of a dead or near dead battery...don't call the exorcist, holler for a Marshall.

It wont hold idle as the IAC (Idle Air Control I think) is not in the correct position after you tried to start it with a semi flat battery. It doesn't reset correctly and is in the wrong position for the Jeep to idle. I had this problem several years ago and a new battery fixed it

Cheers
Steve

I also had this happen to me except mine wasn't battery related at all. It was a small wire in the main wiring harness. It had corroded through the plastic and was shorting out on the fire wall causing the guages to do strange things . My auto electrician found the problem and it's now all good!
