Default Overnight Stay - vic high country need suggestions

Hi All,

I've got 6 adults & 3 Children under 3.

Looking for accommodation (not camping) with at least a kitchen (or meals) shower and dunny. Cheap ish (under $50p/h). 1 night stay

Looking to do some moderate tracks on day 1 and again on day 2 nothing too hardcore as my father-inlaw drives a stock GQ patrol with A/T's, would like to see some things as well and not just drive. Ideally a drive in - stay - drive out scenario. Three families are coming from yarra glen, ferntree gully and foster.

Completely open to suggestions

Anyone stayed at the lodges at Tanjil Bren?

Several lodges on Mt Buller have budget accomodation during summer suited to family groups & is ideally placed for trips to Lake Cobbler, Craig's Hut, Bindaree falls etc, all tracks easy Intermediate driving.

I reckon kitrino_tj is spot on with Noojee.

Not quite the high country but just as beautiful. The tracks around Noojee/ bunyip/labortouche are great and most are fine for all terrains on a dry/damp day. Be careful in the rain some of the clay that way is pretty sticky. Big plus is it is only an hour two hours from melbourne if the worst does happen and the weather sets in.

The high country is fantastic but a fair bit more prep is needed and it is a lot more isolated if you need help or if the weather sets in and the rivers come up which is not uncommon this time of year.

Just my thoughts
