Default 2011 JK CRD - Check Oil Warning, Flashing Little Red Light, Engine Light?

I recently started to get the check oil warning coming up on my dash. I subsequently ignored it as no other errors or the engine light came on. (i checked the oil level and it looked all good)

A week or two later the check engine light came on and stayed on. Running through the error code read out procedure (off-on-off-on-off-on) to get a code read out, nothing come up, it just showed '--------' -> '-Done-'.

I subsequently reset the check oil warning using the three pump accelerator pedal sequence. However, the check engine light remained on. I also noticed at this point that the little red led to the right of the check engine light would flash 3-8.

Took it to the dealer for a service and was told there were no faults, the engine light comes on and stays on to remind people to service their cars.

So, i have a few questions:
* Does the little red LED flashing have a meaning. Is there a wiki page or something i can read which tells me what all the flashes mean?
* Is this story about the engine light (not the check oil message) staying on correct. If so surely this practice is questionable?
* Has anyone else experienced this issue with the check engine light but no error codes?

I've had plenty of check engine lights with no codes, the problem is that in order to check the codes, one has to cycle the ignition, which often clears the codes from the dash. The computer keeps an historical record for the service techs with the full starscan system, but many techs will just clear minor codes unless they are recurring.

Could be an incorrectly fitted oil filter, but if it hasn't been serviced recently then maybe not.

I had an oil pressure sensor die recently on my 07 CRD. Turned out the oil pressure was OK but didn't take a chance, had it trucked to a dealer. Would be a good idea to get someone to check your oil pressure with a mechanical gauge, just to be sure.

Thanks to everyone for their replies.
I have been told it was the factory pre-set warning to "encourage" you to return to the dealership for a service. It apparently comes on ~6 months and stays on until the dealer resets the interval.

That being said, if your car goes into limp mode, then yeah that's something different..lol...
