Thanks Brett. I had overlooked the 275/70's to a degree as they weren't available from many manufacturers over here. I didn't have any history with Mastercraft but I'll certainly look into it. The final drive ratios in the early JK's delivered here seemed to be a bit 'hit and miss'. I test drove one with 4.11's ...and the next test was in a 3.07 or similar. Chalk and cheese...kept stalling the latter vehicle every time I launched it. As I ended up having to 'special order' mine at the time.. I went with 3.73 and included the electronic disconnects ( probably overkill for me ) and the rear diff lock. Hopefully they've standardised things somewhat in the last 7 years or so. I guess the 275/70's should come out at just over 32" ? Lots of variances in these tires as advertised and 'as fitted'. Some are way different .

Yep 275/70 is 32.2 from memory. Next closest was 255/75 at 32.1.

I think cooper make a 275/70 also. I went with mastercraft as they were cheaper and are owned by cooper anyway. Thought it'd be worth giving them a chance and I've been happy so far

Well I've had a test fit of the 285/70R17's and they are clearing all points that would be of concern for highway work and mild off road.. so I'm pretty sure I'll give them a run in a few weeks time. That said...they were test fitted with Hankooks DynaPro... a tire I wasn't familiar with. I was going to go with Toyo Open Country ATII's but they are a $80 more a corner fitted. The price for ST MAXX was over the top. Has anyone any experience with Hankooks AT 's ? or Toyo Open Country for that matter ? Replacement is still a couple of weeks away but I'll be on slicks if I leave it another month

Don't know much about Hankook AT's. Had Hankook HT tyres years ago and they seemed good but it's a stretch to draw any conclusions on the AT from that.

Toyo Open Country get good feedback from my research. Also look at Nitto Terra Grappler G2's. Similar to Toyo Open Country and I think they are from the same manufacturer (probably the same carcass as the tyres are quite similar). They have a great reputation in the states and are just starting to get into the Aus market. They seem to be cheaper than Toyo as well. I have them on my new car and they seem OK but I've only done 1000km and haven't tried them off road yet. Bob Jane stock them.

I fitted a set of Maxxis AT980 last month after 1 too many near death experience with the OEM 245 wrangler ( only half worn)

265/70/17, very grippy Ive used Maxxis twice before, almost as quiet as the original rubber, very fine hot mix gives the faintest of noises. Excellent in the wet and ride is soft, do rate and i got a $100 cash back last month so they only cost $240 each fitted and balanced.
