Default Head Unit Install - 9 inch Android

Hi All - Thought I'd show how my head unit stall went with my Commander.

Firstly I started with this crappy standard unit.

Removal of dash front was pretty straight forward.

Dash on the ground.

I had previously purchased a radio bezel conversion off eBay

Before fitting the bezel conversion which converts to same size as the Jeep Nav radio unit - you need to remove the old bezel.

After removing, it looks a little like this

My original bezel looked a little "hacked" after my amateur removal.

The new head unit on bench.....

And first placement into the dash. I simply plugged in the complete loom supplied which had a canbus decoder to match the Jeep - all plug & play - only took a minute and I could power up and play videos!

The dash front just went on as easy as taking off to reveal the new look.

A little tight in the fitment department around the new radio.

After adding in my home wifi details, she's off & running doing updates already.

Paired my OBD2 bluetooth cheapie and working.

Plays videos straight from my portable HDD

Looks great. Any details on the head unit and the adapter? Has your commander got a separate Amp like my GC limited? And, lastly, does it sound any better?

Cheers,

Robert

Head unit is from Seicane.com type in 130300 into the search bar will get you the the actual unit (that's where I got mine). I believe also available on Amazon etc.

Adaptor to change from standard to NAV type radio surround can be found on eBay or direct from their website.

I have the original Boston Acoustics AMP which resides in the left rear panel of the Commander. They supply a CANBUS decoder that makes it all work as normal, so therefore all the auto off when leaving car, steering controls & AMP work as per normal.

If you already have a seperate or aftermarket AMP I think it might still work BUT you would have to contact them to confirm this first as they'd probably supply a different loom.

BTW......Forgot to mention. I just got my reverse camera going - mostly a plug & play thing as well - the CANBUS provided with the unit makes everything work seamlessly
Just gotta find a better place for the cam maybe?

Thanks for the info, I'll check it out.

I ordered a head unit that is a direct fit with the GC, but even with the canbus adapter it isn't compatible with the amp, even though the steering wheel controls function.

Looks really cool. The rear camera is handy for sure.

Hey

great write up firstly

I've gone and brought an android head-unit as well and I'm wondering what you did for wiring?

1. did you cut together the standard wiring? if did you use a ACC or wire it to constant?
2. did you buy an adaptor?
3. do you have premium sound? if so how did you get the head-unit to work ? can-bus?

I've got a bunch more haha cheers

I've installed so many stereos over the years but this jeep wiring and can-bus with premium sound is so expensive to leave in place

cheers

Rob
