It can be painted in any colour you require.

I can tell you mate, let me ask my bro, there is a unit you need (I think it's called imate) that runs directly to the amp

Thanks mate that be good, would help others on here too thinking of going the iPad way. Iím thinking the only real negative is losing the AM FM radio but might be wrong.

Hey bud, so there are thousands of ways and components to do this. The most basic is an Ipad to istreamer, then istreamer to an amp. But doing it this way, it has to be a JL AMP with a remote volume control, because the istream defaults the volume to full. I donít know if any other brand has remote volume option.

The other option is to install a regular head unit in the glovebox or something like that, and USB port directly to that (get one with a remote so you can flick between am/fm and the iPad).. my brother went the istreamer option and the sound quality is amazing.. plus you can stream music/ radio on it also..

A good head unit with apple carplay/ android auto would probably be better and more futureproof and will still have radio

what happens when the latest ipad is a different size and no longer fits the enclosure?

Looks like top quality work but I don't think tailoring the dash to a single piece of regularly updated electronic equipment is a great idea.

This is under $500 (just a quick google, no idea if its amazing) and you can hook up a reversing cam, use ipad iphone, friend's android phones etc etc.

I think you're missing the point here, it's a custom install for those looking for a custom install, something that you cannot buy off the shelf. Not saying your points aren't valid, but for me (and others like me) having a custom feature designed and fitted is half the point of doing something like this. I am going to do mine also, it will be a different look as I have the old dash, I'll post pics once the fab commences. (fyi this fits the iPad mini, mini 2 and mini 3, haven't tried any later ones, but unless they are massively different, they will most likely fit).

looks sweet. one of the things i find so great about the JK is unlike nearly all modern vehicles you can easily run whatever deck you want. being able to fit a tab like that opens up so many choices for music, maps, whatever apps you want.

being locked down to one device seems like a drawback at first but most of the 'smart' auto focused stuff I see runs ancient android or windows CE builds. that bloody hema HX1 runs a near 5 year old OS and costs nearly 2x ipads. we're in a good spot being able to bolt in anything and good to see guys out there making it easy for us
