I run over a weighbridge whenever I can.

Nearly all the vehicles I see in the outback are over weight, most by a fair margin, and many running around town are well over weight without being loaded at all, just the weight of accessories. The insurance companies will be having a field day.

Heard on the grapevine that by 2020 Qld is going to require weighbridge certificates for both van and vehicle

Every time you leave home?

Portable scales make more sense, pull them over and run them over the scales to see what they weigh loaded up and on the road.

Cheers

Yep that would work except if defected then what do you do with the over-limit load if you're put off the road...Maybe not just too much cargo that's the problem...Hmmm...How to get home??

I guess if you are required to have van and vehicle certified, you will know how much extra gear you can carry.
It will then be your responsibility to ensure you under maximum weight. Currently they probably turn a blind eye, because it is all jut guestimates, when you know the exact Kg's there really isn't an excuse.

The police sergeant at Orbost did a check a while ago and the results were very scary.

They only issued warnings ands advice, but if your car is unroadworthy, they don't let you drive it home to fix it, do they?

VICROADS is leaving a few weighbridges open 24/7 for "self check" so I always pull in and check my weights when I pass one on a trip. The first couple of times were scary - I was 300 kg over on the GVM. Now I am around 100 kg under.

Cheers

Finding a weighbridge in QLD is an issue and few if any are open 24/7..Usually for transport inspectors to check trucks..Guess that will change if a car-van certificate is required (maybe)..Need an app for weighbridge locations.

The only QLD one I know is in Townsville, on the southern end of Port Road, both sides. Just drive on to the single axle pad and the readout is on the pole.

Cheers
Numb Thumbs.

PS. Why they don't leave the hundreds of weighbridges at wheat silos on for self check...
