so sounds like a bull bar increase's temp slightly. they must restrict the air flow a little in places.

Mine is always under half or on if its working but i only have a nudge bar on the front.

Connected up blue driver and got same engine temp readings as scan gauge 2 so readings must be correct. I have ECB bulbar, maybe bulbar and led light bar are enough to cause restriction of air flow.

Hi Clarky & others
I have a scan gauge - don't know model (it came with a magazine subscription) - which doesn't show transmission temp; can you advise which gauge shows trans temp you'd buy/have please?
Towing a fair bit & am worried about trans. temps so would feel better if I could monitor this.
where is trans radiator fitted?
I'm also led to believe that old thermostats bump temps up.
incidentally, the eBay link provided is for petrol not diesel.
Thanks

You can add custom gauges to the scangauge 2, using what they call "x-gauge" codes. Can read trans temp for both the 545rfe and NAG1/W5A580.

Try this x-gauge for the CRD;
TXD: 07E1215C
RXF: 0461055C0000
RXD: 4808
MTH: 00010001FFCE

If you're interested there's an old thread where Fud and I work through figuring out the codes to get the temp in Celsius, with some info of how the codes work;

Thanks for that.
Bit complicated for someone like me
Is bottom line that the only way to get trans temp is via an x-gauge?

Only way to get trans temp with a scangauge is via an x-gauge.
I'm sure there are other devices that can do it 'out of the box', but I'm not familiar with any.

Putting the x-gauge in is tedious but pretty straight-forward... kinda like programming a VCR to record the rugby haha.
Basically just find your way into the "x-gauge" option on the scangauge, then to add a new x-gauge it'll ask for the "TXD", so you'll enter "07E1215C" (by pushing the buttons up/down to choose each individual character... that's where it gets tedious.), then it'll ask for "RXF", and so-on, until you've entered all the parts of the code;
TXD: 07E1215C
RXF: 0461055C0000
RXD: 4808
MTH: 00010001FFCE
