Clarky, I much agree about more CRDs being sold in this market given the need for long distance towing duties and fuel economy.

Before buying my JKU, I was in the market for a used 5.7 L Commander but got frustrated with the lack of availability. One of the reasons for wanting this over the CRD is that the petrol engined cars would have been less likely used for long distance towing.

If anyone can service their own vehicles when out of warranty, they will save a lot of money. I wish I had your skills.

Most people would have parted with their GCs and Commanders because there are few alternatives for parts and service to the Stealers, unless you find a good mechanic.

Check out my Ride(s)

Crd servicing is easy as. Oil and filter are extremely accessible. Only things I have had sorted by a pro was the starter motor. Utter prick of a location, and the bushings on the control arm and front diff. Otherwise there is loads of room for arms and fingers provided the right tools are used. Jeep and the average mechanic will happily charge 800-1000 for an oil change and check up. Or 1500 in port hedland. That was when I started doing it all myself.
