Default Front End Clunking over Bumps

Hi Guys,

I have a 2010 JKU and noticed a clunk coming from the front end when going over speed bumps I don't think much of it but when to go wheeling today and once I hit the rough stuff every bump resulted in a loud clunk. I had a look underneath and the drag link and tie rod have a load of play, the tie rod (I think I have it correct it has the stabiliser attached) has alot more play than the drag link and when I move it with my hand I get the same clunk. I have had a look over everything else and it all seems pretty tight.
Any suggestions on what I should be looking at replacing would be good or thoughts on if there is anything else that could be causing the clunk.
Thanks in advance.
Steve

Replace the draglink & tierod with aftermarket heavy duty units , u can replace one end of the tierod but the other is fixed & cant be removed from the rod , check the vendors on hear they sell upgrade units

Have you made any modifications to the original setup?

Is it clunking as you rotate it with your hand as they will rotate or is it sideways play which you normally can't tell by hand and this is a problem. I would first check that tie rod, drag link and panhard bolts or all correctly torqued to 125ft/lbs as it simply could be loose and this is allowing excessive movement

Mine clunked as well, it turned out to be the drivers side axle uni joint.

The only mods I have made are quick release dico's and 33's. I have checked all the nuts and bolts I could see and all were tight. The rotation is up and down not side to side.
I guess I need to start pricing up tie rods and drag links.
Thanks,
Steve

Do you feel any binding when turning the steering wheel and moving forward slowly? Like it sort of hops a little?

I had the Uni let go and it was what you described.

Nah there is nothing that feels out of the ordinary apart from the clunk over bumps. There is no knocking when turning, the car drives as usual it is just the knock over bumps and it was very noticeable when I took it wheeling.

Cheers,
