Default Buggy Designs

Guy's,

As being a virgin to rock crawling until the Brissy 4x4 show and watching the demo guys in action, I was interested in maybe building a rig and competing at some later stage.
First question: Are the buggy designs what ever you want or do they come from a standard set of required components?

Second Quaestion: What costs would I be looking at to initally design and build my first buggy?

Sorry for the simple questions but as I said I am mew too this and would like to get into it. I would like to build something that does look like a Jeep of sorts.

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

best to peruse the rules of the comp which you'll be running in.
different classes for full tube/vehicle based buggy.
vehicle based is going to be a bit cheaper than full tube and depending how you do it/how handy you are; it's best to budget up to 20k from what i've seen & heard.
i think jimmy is/was selling his and he'd have some good tips for you too

I was going to base it off a CJ and work from there. I looked all over the net at all of the Rock Crawling websites and have come to the opinion that a full tube is ok but definatly outside the budget that I have.

As suggested I have a copy of the rules and starting the go through them. After reading the threads also I am wondering if the vehicle based buggy would be as competitive but they would be fun to have a crack at and would increase exposure to the sport for the average man about town.

Now its about looking for the solid base vehicle and going from there.

Don't write off a full tube due to cost... you may find that it is cheaper to have a tube frame built and then fit it out yourself.

Some people who make rockcrawling tube chassis in Aus:

ABT4x4 (building mine at the moment!)
Cheezy Racing
Overkill
Haultec (these guys are in Brizzy, which may be a good starting point for you)
High Country Customs
etc.

...there are more, but that should get you started.

Most of these folks are part of the outerlimits BB (www.outerlimits4x4.com) if you need contact details (ABT abd Cheezy contact details in my sig).

Mate,

Very tempting but as I dont have a spare $15k right now so my best option is to build one progressivly. If I had it I would take it off your hands, mind you I would have to fight the wife to use it first.

Thanks for the offer.

Its actally been dropped in price to $12500 if your interested. Located in Brisbane. FYI the cost of parts alone on this rig exceed 19k, and 8 mths of work.

cheap for sale at this price, and then you need a trailer too. I hear banks lend money
