Default 4wding in Melbourne.

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to ask if there are any spots in Melbourne that i can drive in a STOCK Cherokee with road tires and no lift or mods.

I am looking at the Dandenong Ranges but I am not really sure. Anglesea is another candidate too.Never been 4wding before. Also what prep should i do before embarking on the trip. My Kee is getting its 150k Major service done and fresh tyres.Other than that what would we need and info on spots than my stock Cherokee can go without much hassle.

I want locations that are 100-150k max from Melbourne.Any help would be appreciated.

Best way to prepare
1) Do the MJOC driver training, there's one on this weekend!
2) Go out with others who have a vague sense of what to do
3) Upgrade the tyres to All Terrains

Remember even the most benign tracks can change in an instant, we've often done tracks in 4 wheel drive high in one direction and been scared witless in the other an hour or two later as the rain came down.

giki

there are alot of places to go

Otways is good at the anglesea end
wombat has some easy tracks
tallarook has some easy tracks
Cobaw has some easy tracks

best to go with another car and have some recovery gear in case you get into trouble

I have maps for Murrindindi, marysville triangle and warburton but I sort of don't recommend them at the moment

good luck

if you get into trouble call flexy he seems to want to help

Mount Dissapointment is about 60 kms from the city near Whittlesea and has all types of terrain but i would be very careful about driving anywhere at the moment cos of the fires. Like its been said before the club thing or at least another car is a good idea.
Some of the tracks in the book..."25 bush tracks in Vic" are also pretty informative.
