Default Mechanic suggestion Melbourne

I have just moved down to Melbourne and was hoping someone could help out with a suggestion for a mechanic.

My JK recently had it’s clutch ?thrust bearing replaced twice (second time under warranty) and it’s still making a similar sound. It’s an intermittent thing and is usually stopped by pushing in the clutch. I think it might just be an adjustment, but not being a mechanic I need a good one that can figure out what’s actually wrong and fix it rather than just try replacing bits at my expense. When the last one replaced the bearing the second time, he said that there might be a problem with a bearing in the transmission that might be something to do with the problem. Now that I listen for it there is now a worn bearing sound in 2nd and 4th and it heats up after a bit of driving in those gears. I’ll need to get that fixed too.

Is there a good mechanic that people can recommend that will be able to diagnose the problem and let me know my options? I’ve moved to SE Melbourne but don’t mind driving for the right one.

I use Trax Industries. I had exactly the same problem and he fixed it (was a thrust bearing, but when he was that deep I figured I just replace the whole lot as it was an ‘0.

My fear for you is that the guy who replaced it the second time didn’t do it properly and it’s still the same problem.

Daniel from a Trax should be able to help you however I think they’re away until 14 Jan.

Good luck!

Trax are out in Hopper Crossing so a fair way away from SE Melbourne.

Double Black Off Road (DBOR) are out Moorabbin way.
Double Black Off-Road Pty Ltd
Unit 17 / 150 Chesterville Road
Moorabbin, VIctoria 3189
http://www.doubleblackoffroad.com/

USA 4x4 are also good I have heard
USA 4X4 Pty Ltd
14 Fonceca Street
Mordialloc VIC 3195
https://www.usa4x4.com/

I recently had DBOR fit two new front shocks - quick job.
They are Wrangler specialists and do servicing as well as mods

Thanks for the replies, I'll check them out.

I am hoping it's just an adjustment, but we'll see how it goes.

Double black did the lift on mine (before my time) so that should be a good option.

Either see Henry at Jeep konection, if he can’t do it he will point you in the right direction. They are in Hallam. Always gives good advice even if he loses a sale

Or see Chris or ken at Casey exhaust in Berwick, very honest and knowledgeable

Been out there a fair bit over the years, relaxed fella, easy to deal with, puts in the extra effort. Same goes for DBOR. For me just comes down to who happens to be stocking the part I'm after, always happy at both of these shops.
