Default Buying a second hand wk2

Hi,

Looking at buying a second hand wk2 in Victoria with a budget of 40k....
I have seen a fair few diesel and petrol v6's around for under this price, some are starting to get up well over the 100000km mark... (would love a diesel)
My question is, how many of you guys have wk2 GC's with high kms that are out of warrenty, and are you having many expensive dramas with them? (petrol & diesel).
As i will most likely be buying one out of warrenty, i will try to avoid servicing at the stealers... any good recomendations for well priced, quality jeep mechanics around Melbourne?

Cheers!!

Thanks Nicjak, sounds like you got yourself a bargain!
The Jeeps I am looking at at the moment are 2012 diesels with 70-90000ks on them, might work out cheaper in the long run to buy a petrol one considering they won't be under warranty....? Any one here know from experience?
Cheers.

Consider pricing a few things like injectors, fuel pump, turbo, auto rebuild. You may be better to get a lower km lower spec model or hold off. Modern diesels get scary expensive when things start breaking. Not trying to scare you but you need to consider the possibility of expensive failures.

There's no real pattern as far as I can see. I've heard of a few 5 speed trans failures that seem generally related to heavy van towing. So check for towing use. The 8 speed in the MY14 v6 petrol seems to have had a few failures too (IIRC).

The early builds of the MY14 are generally thought to be more buggy, they were built from Jan to Sept 2013.

But yeah, a diesel is going to be more expensive to service and fix, so if you are limited on funds, go the petrol.

If you can stretch the budget and afford the petrol bill:

Gidday Roosterchicken,
I have a 2011 3lt diesel with 115000 k on the clock. It has been to Cape York and has done some Vic high country work as well. Has been used for towing a 19ft pop top caravan and also a camper trailer. I have had a few issues . I have just replaced the front d bushes as they were very noisy the left one was worn however you cannot just replace the bushes the complete sway bar has to be replaced at a cost of around $1293 (no one makes a replacement bush yet). also I have replaced the front wheel bearings at $279 ea. I will also say that after the Cape York trip I had to replace the front drive shaft, ( due to coupling bolts becoming loose and flogging out the cv), at $950 fitted .
Don't get me wrong the repairs have been costly yes, but the Jeep has done some serious work, and I'm not done with it yet. Next week the uneek rear bar and tyre carrier goes on and an aux fuel tank, then its off to the Simpson Desert and some outback NSW then back to the Flinders ranges.
Thanks for your time

My Jeep is dark charcoal , 3lt Diesel fitted with Tradesman roof rack , Uneek Bull Bar runva winch, Airflow snorkel, hpf tune, running 285/60/18 bridgestone all terrain tyres

Interesting you want an aux fuel tank for an already economical diesel, but I guess it saves carry extra up top
