That is because Singapore rations their cars so less congested. You will have ontop of that is the onroad cost, not to mention you have to bid for the COE(to own a car which expires around 10 years), ERP etc

I'm surprised they are selling the diesel at all.

They generally try and discourage them, outside of trucks.

so you have to bid first for a COE , then if you are successful you are slapped with taxes etc and this is before you even purchase the car . As of feb this year there will be no growth in the number of COE's available for private use .

So COE's are going to become more valuable as the number released is capped now . COE can and does rise and fall as demand changes .

Status symbol among the local is a well known culture. COE pushes the price up obviously.

Where would they go in a GC, what would they tow? Camping trips to Malaysia/Thailand.

Lots of money there from mainland Chinese investors

Nowhere, there is no where to go but Malaysia for the weekend - Then drive like idiots thinking they own the road.

Having a car there is a status thing more than anything. It is sometimes inconvenient to drive a car there with limited and expensive parking. Only the rich or PRChina will make the local's feel outcast.

I think Jeep's wont do it for them either, if you have the money then they like their continental cars.

When they first announce Jeep Grand Cherokee will be coming to Malaysia a few years back, it was around RM400k, or RM600k+ for the SRT. The insurance on them worked out something like RM20k per month. At most, I saw ONLY 1 on the road there.
