Default 17 inch to 18 inch OEM wheels

Can anyone tell me if changing from 17 inch to the 18 inch OEM wheels provide sufficient spacing from the internal wall of the rim to prevent fouling on Heavy duty Synergy drag link (flip) bushes? My 17 inch wheels I use spacers to prevent rubbing but want a set of fully legal on road wheels that do not foul. Suggestions, experiences anyone?

just get some 17's with correct offset/backspacing to clear the joints... 4.75" (or 4.5") is the magic number IIRC

That would not qualify the fully legal aspect of the request.

Unless some has tried it and can answer definitively I would shoot a message to synergy or maybe an Aussie distributor.

If you dont want to change the offset you might be able to use a bigger sized wheel. Kind of like when you add bigger brakes then a bigger wheels to fit over them. You could borrow a stock 18 and give it a try but with stock offset Id think it won't fit as the radius is only a half inch increase. I'm guessing a minimum 19" rim or even a 20 would be needed as the radius is only a 1-1.5" increase over a 17. This will create new issues like tyre selections which would probably cost a lot more. You would probably want to run a 34" tyre otherwise it would be like low running low profiles offroad.

Thanks for the feedback jeepers. I am getting a set of off road rims, but figured that a cheap set (OEM) of onroad wheels would be good, especially for rego when I need to change from Qld (current) to ACT rego in a few months time. My 17 inch OEM wheels do fit actually over the heavy duty bushes, but you would not risk having any movement on them because they would just foul on the inside of the rim when the drag link bar moves on the bush. 18 inches should give an extra 12 mm +/-, but I would rather know from someone who has done it.
