Default 265/70/16 Tyres

Hi all,
Is there anyone running 265/70/16 M/T.

Can you fit them on the rear tyre holder and still open the back window.

Pics would also be great if possible.

I have 245/70/16's (bridgestone d694 lt which has a fair bit of tread) and it is a (very) tight fit on the rear tyre holder, can't get the tyre cover on but can open the window just fine.. I think 265 may be a stretch but not 100% sure

I have a 31/10.5/15 in there, you just have to elongate the holes in the rear swing - around numberplate door, so as you can put the bolts in. As well as removing the poprivit that holds the plastic to the rear door itself, so as you can get the thing out and around the wheel.

I think that CD has (had?) the same setup. He removed the rear tyre carrier and turned it upside down (and obviously remounted it). CD just removed his plastic shell all together and made a rego plate holder up that mounts on the tyre mount bolts (ala a Kaymar plate holder). Not sure about rear window clearance, but I think the flipped mount solved that problem. Let's hear what Fouro has to say on the subject.

i removed the complete tyre cover to fit the 265/70 MT, i am also using a jeep rim with a slighly greater offset so it does not interfere with the rear window opening without having to open the door, on a stock offset KJ rim IMHO there will be interference

Be prepared to pound down the front pinch weld , and cut and heat gun a LOT of front wheel well liner, you WILL have to bumpstop the rear to stop the tyres from popping your rear flares off

Thanks guys looks like 245/75/16 are the go then. Am going to remove the tyre swing arm and fabricate a new number plate holder this weekend.

Looks better that way I think. Thanks CD for the pics/links.

Am going to try a secondhand 255/70/16 Coopers S/T tommorrow as a mate will fit it to the spare for nothing.

Like the look of the extra width but 255/70 are a limited size.

Will probably get Maxxis 245/75/16 Bighorns as cost is a big factor. (Anyone running these?)

Can't wait for CRDSTU's lift kit and mopar skid plates to arrive.

Getting there slowly.
