You could even run it to the top of the roll cage that way you could ford some pretty deep water with little fear of it sucking in water as they run pretty well under water as long as they have dry air. Mind you the rest of the car might not like it!

Default Some odds and ends from Humpty Doo

Hi all

Here is something a little bit different. You might think these things are a bit cheap and nasty, but they suit me.

1. I have put a magnetic paint/panel guard over all the vulnerable body sides. This is simply made from fridge magnet material which is covered in a colour matching film. I spend a lot of time driving down one lane bush tracks with branches scraping down the sides. This has put a full stop to any paint damage as well as softening the blows from sticks being thrown up by the front wheels.

2. I didn't much like the car body colour on the window frames. Looks a bit thin and weak in my view (from a car design point of view) So I blacked out the frames. I call it "ruggedising". You might call it disgusting!

3. Rough and ready I know but I put a tube of refrigeration insulating foam rubber on the door armrests. It works a treat and costs next to nothing.

4. I had a local canvas man make a foam padded central armrest to suit my arm height. This is a big improvement on the original hard box lid - and it did not cost much. Just held on with velcro straps. (Excuse the dog foot prints that you will see in the photo. The dogs love this car, my wife calls it the Kennel as the dogs love to sleep in it during the day!)

Basically my Strangler is a bush car which lives its life on back-block tracks behind Humpty Doo and out to Kakadu so it ain't ever going to be clean and pretty.

These ideas might be useful you.

We are currently in the process of making the armrests and console pads for jk's. Any idea how much he charged you for the console pad?

Sorry, can't help you there. He also fixed some after market canvas seat covers that split at the bottom after about a month. Thus, the prices were all rolled into one. If I find the invoice I might be able to let you know.

Cheers

not a bad idea with the magnetic panels protecting your paint.
I gave up worrying about scratches when i took my then brand new Jeep up a track that turned into something trail-bikes would use! It got so narrow at the end it was completely overgrown, blocked!
I couldn't turn around either so i pushed through till i got out of there.
Nothing like the sounds of branches scraping along the sides of your car to make you cringe lol

When its 5 years old i'll give it a birthday and take it to the spray painters

Well, what have I done to the Jeep this week? I’ve now had it for a month and it’s my first Jeep. When I picked it up from the dealer I took it straight to the tyre shop and swapped the standard Goodyears for BFG A/T 285/70/17’s. Since then, I’ve been waiting for the other bits. So, what I’ve just finished doing is:

1. Fit ARB winch bar and Superwinch EP 9.0 with Dynex Dux 75 rope.
2. Fit Mopar 2’’ lift springs. Got these from Jamie at Northern Motors as Jeep dealer in Auckland claims they don’t exist.
3. Fit Rugged Ridge Body Armor side bars.
4. Fit Narva Bull Lamps I got for NZ$80 on TradeMe (Kiwi EBay). Not sure about these. I’ll see how they go in the bush on Sunday.
Looking forward to going offroad on Sunday and seeing how the Jeep compares with my (very modified) old Nissan Safari SWB. It’s certainly a damn sight more civilised to drive on the road.
