OIL COOLER Part
Discovered that GOSS have a oil cooler for our rigs, part # is OC216 , oil cooler only with gasket and specified for EXF engine which is our oil burner.... certainly beats having to buy the whole thing.
Found a listing at Western Filters $376 ...............
https://www.westernfilters.net.au/pr...roductId=14853
something to add to my current parts listing to go along with ....

Only ask as ive seen some with internal castings that are crap right out of the box

Good find drover...as genpk wrote too, wonder how good they are? I have a cooler I bought of ebay a fair while ago that I carried on my lap "just in case".
I am going to have the cooler replaced around 150k as insurance anyway. But I guess it would be very possible to buy a dud to replace what has not yet failed.
That would give you the irits!
It would be interesting too to know whether it is actually gasket / seal failure a lot of the time, or does the internal honeycomb setup fail. When I had the cooler go in my last Jeep, I got the cooler and mounting bracket assembly back from the workshop to check it over. I didn't find it practical to attempt pulling the cooler itself apart looking for a failure point, as it would only need to be a very slight crack to allow oil to escape under pressure...you'd do more damage just pulling it apart.

Most of these alloy castings be they oil coolers or housings have their share of failures, with the genuine ones you know they will fail at some time so I don;t have an issue with a selected after market job.... On my WG I replaced something with an after market unit, forget what and the casting was much superior to the genuine MB part... had a look in the box at the shop and saw a nice finish so though OK.
They are all chinese now anyway.... so I suppose like genuine its a chance we all take...
Had a mate who on his WG did a mod so his oil went through a proper oil cooler and by passed the stock rubbish need to be a good plumber to do it though....

Need to be very careful with Mercedes diesel oil coolers. Some have a bypass that stops oil going through the cooler until it is warm. When you try & do your own plumbing it is easy to find that you have caused the oil flow to be blocked all together until it is warm. More than long enough to seize. Happened a lot in the USA in the 80's & 90's.

Its beyond my workshop capabilities but wouldn't be a bad after market sales winner, just a couple of tooled hose fittings, hose and an oil cooler tapp into the same feed as the original job so any sort of temp foolery would be unaffected and just block the coolant lines .......... Thinking about it if I came across a oil filter/cooler unit it would be good to put on the bench and have a good look at it all without having to use part of a running engine, I know the odd fitter who could turn up something if needed..... A project for 2024 I think, problem is nowadays folk want heaps pf $$$ even for a broken part..................... I just broke a John Deere Ztrak blower, so absorbed in some JD mower 101, I hate ride ons and zero turns, actually I hate working on mowers period............. If my mower at home croaks I work out how old it is if over 5 I bin it..............

When I have at times bought "genuine" Mopar parts they often have come in a box stamped Made in China. So quite likely the majority of Mopar sourced spares come from cheaper Chinese manufacturers. Doesn't really inspire much confidence...
I am still beating myself up that I threw out the oil cooler and mounting assembly off my last Jeep, but, I am going to remove the one I had fitted to my dead Jeep which is still parked up, (just waiting now for a decent day to remove the headlights and a couple of other bits so I can get rid of the rest.)
That one was replaced at 173650 kms, the Jeep passed away at 194,720 kms...so only on there for 20 odd thousand k's.That new mounting bracket and oil cooler assembly fitted was from a Dealer, so who knows whether it was supplied to FCA from VM Motori as a spare part or made elsewhere. Though, being it was the complete cast bracket assembly unlikely it would have been after market manufacture due to tgoling requirements.
I do want to fit an oil pressure sender to the housing if possible to have a proper real oil pressure reading. I am sure it would be possible by using the existing location of the oil temp sender.
I'll chat to Ant and Todd at 7 Slot and Stu Murchison on that idea as they'd have a better understanding anyway.
I am sure it be possible as you wrote drover to bypass the stock oil cooler and add an air to oil type cooler. It have read where it has been done on some RAM's in the US, there is an after market kit available i think. Though I won't worry about that too much right now.
