Default Air bag replacement

A technician was working on replacing my 05 radio, following speaker wires along the driver's sill. The curtain air bag over the passenger windows deployed. The local agent (dealer) in Cairns can source a MOPAR bag from USA, but the controller has been discontinued and my enquiries at Customer Care Melbourne have had no result.

I have been told the existing controller cannot be reprogrammed, but at this stage I have not been able to learn if a second-hand controller that has NOT been deployed can be installed successfully.

We have been without our Jeep for 5 weeks now, so we need to make some progress here.

Any advice greatfully received. Thanks.
Peter

Not jeep specific info, but on other makes that I am aware of if the airbag control unit has not been in a commanded deploy situation that is removed from a vehicle with airbags undeployed then they can normally be reused in other vehicles.

Hi Classic Boy. There are more alarms in my Jeep than all the other cars I have ever owned all combined. Steep learning curve.

Thanks

Progress !!!! I pleaded with the dealer to try and find a second hand controller, sucess. Hope it works. The air bag has to be "new", and has yet to be ordered from USA. contains a pressure cylinder and cannot be air-freight, so 4 to 6 weeks wait.

Thanks for your support.

I hope that the people responsible completely covered the cost and returned the car in the condition it was when this started. The Service Manual has many warnings about disconnecting the battery when doing any work related to the dash, electrical system, etc. A great example on why you should not hand over your keys to people that are not qualified to servuce a kJ, and for many of us, that means we do most of the work ourselves.

Hi glend
I think the guy that did the radio learnt an expensive lesson. We were compensated for the inconvenience, but I will be warning anyone else that comes near my Jeep.
